It's inevitable in every urban professionals life that a suit will have to be donned for a variety of reasons. These reasons could be anything from an important conference to a formal company shindig to special family occasions. Whatever that event may be, a smart, well-tailored suit is definitely a must.
Of course, like most of the finer things in life, suits don't come cheap. In fact, most suits are actually quit expensive, especially the designer ones and those that are custom made. However, this doesn't mean that discount suits that are affordable yet still stylish aren't around - on the contrary. You simply have to know where to find them and how to pick them right. All you need is a budget, an idea of the kind of suit you want, and an open mind. Here are some places where you find discount suits:
1. Go online. Possibly the best place to find discount suits is the Internet. With so many websites available these days selling anything and everything under the sun, however, you have to pick the right ones that could provide you with the suit of your dreams at an affordable price. Finding these sites is the easiest step; it's picking one out of a multitude that's tricky. So when you're shopping for discount suits online, don't just go for the first fancy-looking website you can find. Use Google to look around, compare prices and services, and pick the ones you think fit your needs and budget best.
2. Ask for referrals. Chances are your friends and colleagues are in the same boat, both budget-wise and needs-wise, as you are. You can always ask them where they got their discount suits from. They may know a good tailor or designer where you can get fitted for smart suits for less, so don't ignore these invaluable sources of information. Similarly, if you happen to have a good contact, don't be selfish - share the information with your friends.
3. Thrift shop. Some people might scoff about the idea of shopping from thrift shops and consignment stores. You'll be surprised to know, however, that these are excellent places to get discount suits from. Most of the suits available are secondhand - that's a given. However, these are generally in good condition, having only been worn once or twice by their previous owners. Give it a try, and you might uncover a great find! You can always get your new 'old' suit altered to fit you better. You can also find affordable dress shirts to go with your suit from here.
4. Get secondhand suits. You might not know it, but you might have friends, family, and colleagues in your circle whose closets are positively bursting with suits that they might want to get rid of. Ask around, and you might be pleasantly surprised. Chances are they will be quite happy to sell you their practically unused apparel at very low prices. It can't hurt to ask people you know intimately, especially those who have the same size and body type as you do. Again, you can always opt for alterations later.
5. Visit department stores. Department store chains always offer affordable apparel that are semi-designer in quality, including discount suits. Most of these stores are located inside malls, or at least, close to malls. You've probably already seen such department store chains like K & G Fashion Superstore, Marshall's, and Burlington Coat Factory. It's quite to hard to miss them when they're all over the country.
6. Shop at major retailers. These include JC Penney's Wal-Mart, and Macy's. They usually have an impressive stock of discount suits in considerably good quality. What's more, these retailers always have one promotion or another going on, so you can get suits very cheap. The best time to shop for discount suits is at the end of winter when they're getting ready to get rid of last year's stock to make room for the spring and fall line.
